The Tests of Rapid Mental Arithmetic (TRMA) measure how quickly a child or adult can compute mental arithmetic problems in the four core processes of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
TRMA helps clinicians diagnose SLD, including Dyslexia, when used in conjunction with standardised tests of graded word reading, graded spelling, numeracy skills and handwriting speed. Background information about the child is provided by the parent using a Developmental History Form checklist. A diagnosis of SLD is crucial to enabling the school and parent to assist the child appropriately, with long term academic and vocational benefits.
The TRMA also has many educational and vocational uses for all age levels.

The TRMA web app allow you to administer TRMA exams using a phone, tablet, or laptop, and supports both touchscreen and keyboard input.
This licence also gives you access to a TRMA percentiles calculator, hich you can use to calculate percentiles for exams that have been administered with paper and pencil.
The Test of Rapid Mental Arithmetic (TRMA) is a set of six speeded tests that measure how quickly a child or adult can compute mental arithmetic problems.
The tests are administered sequentially in the following order:
- Addition problems
- Subtraction problems
- A mix of addition and subtraction problems
- Multiplication problems
- Division problems
- A mix of all four operations
Each section has 30 questions and a time limit of 60 seconds. The test takes about seven minutes overall, allowing for a short break between sections.
The test can be administered as a paper-and-pencil test, using the TRMA answer sheet, or it can be administered on a touchscreen device (tablet or smartphone) using the TRMA app.
The TRMA app scores the test automatically and generates a print-friendly report. The app also produces a set of percentile ranks (one for each section) for every school grade from Year 1 to Year 11, plus ranks for adults.
The app also provides a standalone percentile calculator so that test scores from paper-and-pencil tests can be converted to percentile ranks.
