Dr Gary Childs is a widely experienced general psychologist practitioner, and has worked in multiple settings for over 25 years. He has been in private practice in Adelaide, with referrals from GPs, paediatricians and psychiatrists for all age groups and to treat diverse problems in both suburban and rural settings. He was a fly in/fly out rural psychologist for over 14 years throughout Eyre Peninsula, with federal funding through their GP network. He has been a contractor to the Education Department, diagnosing learning difficulties in diverse country and urban schools.
He was originally a primary school teacher, and went on to be a senior lecturer in Educational and Applied Psychology in various universities. He trained teachers, speech pathologists and psychologists for about 20 years, and published applied research on Reading ability, Executive function skills, Mental Arithmetic proficiency, and social skills in children.
He holds a PhD in Educational and Developmental Psychology, and has MCEDP(Academic) classification. He continues to develop clinical tools to assist in child and adult diagnosis in all areas, and holds a special interest in the Neuro developmental disorders such as Specific Learning Disability and Autism spectrum.
